Fire Rating

For more than 30 years, Nullifire have focussed on the supply of passive fire rating solutions across 2 key areas:

  • Intumescent coatings for the protection of structural steel
  • Fire stopping and penetration sealing systems

The principle is simple. The protection of structural steel work and in the containment of fire means more occupants can safely exit the building and fire crews can get in and more readily fight the fire.

Protection of Structural Steel

During a classic cellulosic fire (such as those in a normal office), temperatures can reach a staggering 1000 degrees celsius. In such intense heat, it is inevitable that the structural steel used to support the building will be prone to warping and eventually collapsing. However, where intumescent coatings are used, a protective char will form at the start of the fire, giving the steel longer resistance during a fire.

In the past these products were often labeled as fireproofing paints, however, this is a slight misnomer as nothing is quite fireproof.

Fire containment

In the case of fire, it is essential that people can safely exit the building. This not only means that it holds its structural integrity, but that the fire cannot spread faster than people can exit. To minimise the risk of flame and smoke spreading Nullifire Australia can provide you with a range of options available including sealants , coated batts and containment compounds.
